I would hate that too.

It really depends. I do it in one shop because its more convinient. I have to put the stuff only one time in my hands.

1. get the scanner on entry of the shop.
2. scan item at shelf and put it in your bags
3. repeat 2
4. scan exit
5. pay
6. put bags from shopping cart into car.

I second this. Using this for about half an year as my full document store, letters, anything.
