I try to like your project really hard given it’s open source, the only proper one in the social media manager category that’s self-hostable at that… but my god, this whole generative AI stuff combined with social media and marketing sounds like the epiphany of sloppy shit.
“getting murdered by the police”
It was dark humour. Given how dark it was it probably got murdered on the way to you as well.
So easy to spot US citizens these days.
Ig I was to compare the black plague with Ebola I could also make it look like a walk in the park. Both of the countries you mention are, politically (!), a huge pile of shit.
Of course China got a high GDP-PPP as the whole world used it as cheap manufacturing plant. However PPP doesn’t indicate the quality of goods, just the amount you can buy per unit of currency. An electrical tooth brush from temu might be technically the same kind of product as one from Braun, but definitely not the same. Also the fact they use literal slaves (not just wage-slaves) in domestic production that make cheap shit completely screws up any proper comparison, especially if you dare to also compare quality of life.
Of course they build more infrastructure, they’re the country with highest population on earth. Their infrastructure however is cheap shit and already crumbles away. Also, compared to the US any rich country can do better in this regard, that’s not hard.
Of course the standard of living in metropolitan areas as of China have a higher chance of being better than in the US given the lack of centralized big box stores and walkability of the area. However the statistics China provides especially for those social things are proven to be full of shit, their suppression of poor people alone completely screws up any comparison. And don’t even start with rural areas…
So yeah, you should really stop consuming so much tankie propaganda and comparing two shit show governments.
Ah yes, the country that officially ended poverty because they ordered it to. Those people under bridges especially foreigners shall not see must all be trendy social media influencers trying the latest hype, being homeless.
Their statistics are just utterly made up, this is blatant propaganda.
Indeed, it’s not their main goal either. Unfortunately tools like Lutris, while doing awesome work, are utterly overwhelmed by both the influx of people as well as the amount of games. And while most GOG games work with the auto-generated installers, many do not and require custom installers that are often unmaintained and quickly become outdated.
Depends on which GPU you compare it with, what model you use, what kind of RAM it has to work with, ecetera. NPU’s are purpose-built chips after all. Unfortunately the whole tech is still very young, so we’ll have to wait for stuff like ollama to introduce native support for an apples-to-apples comparison. The raw numbers to however do look promising.
May take a look at systems with the newer AMD SoC’s first. They utilize the systems’ RAM and come with a proper NPU, once ollama or mistral.rs are supporting those they might give you sufficient performance for your needs for way lower costs (incl. power consumption). Depending on how NPU support gets implemented it might even become possible to use NPU and GPU in tandem, that would probably enable pretty powerful models to be run on consumer-grade hardware at reasonable speed.
Those PCs we had back then weren’t necessarily smaller. 😅 I think we just cared less.
That said, Mini-ITX builds are pretty nice and also in fashion right now. And when it comes to beloved old games anyone can just get an old laptop for the price of one Domino’s Pizza off of ebay and start playing.
Got one of those here. Some old 15€ junker with Intel HD 2000, but that thing will chug through anything from Unreal Tournament to Quake, Age of Empires, Warcraft, Forsaken, Total Annihilation, Dungeon Keeper, Command & Conquer, NFS…
God damn it, you made me listen to my childhood again.
Lol, stuff like Hellsing Ultimate must’ve given them a reality check.
Putting aside the fact how little the median citizen earned more in wages in comparison to the prices going up:
No, of course not. However it’s not just the games and the console that we’re talking about. We’re talking about them monetizing every single bit more and more, especially adding subscriptions and taking away ownership. In regards to Nintendo at least they still ship real cartridges with the working game on them, but any digital purchase is neither owned by you nor can be preserved without the help of hackers. They try to continuously make money while giving less and then on top of that the prices went up.
Not to mention their patent troll, anti-preservation and fangame-killing practices. Just in case anyone wants to argue for the company being “not as bad as others” or sth.
Remember their attempt at patenting relative motion? Absolutely absurd…
Which is, to be fair, impressive for a highly mobile device. Kudos to those engineers. All that scummy fucking extortion shit still is fucked up though, no matter how you look at it. The only reason anyone buys this is because of the brand and its beloved exclusive franchises. In a more fair environment they’d be utterly demolished if they tried to pull of this bullshit, and the practice of preventing you to play your own older games to make you buy them over and over again (or hell, even not owning your games anymore) would be outright banned.
I’m still flabbergasted we’ve arrived at games costing 100€ now. Not some collector’s edition, just the normal game. On a console that’ll set you back 500€ on its own, not to mention the service subscriptions. Even the god damn next-gen improvements for existing games supported through backwards compat now cost a 2-digit sum. What’s next, subscriptions for device features (which you already paid big money for) to work like it’s a freaking BMW? It’s just utter insanity, and people are still paying for all that shit.
They would run with 8x speed each. Should not be too much of a bottleneck though, I don’t expect the performance to suffer noticeably more than 5% from this. Annoying, but getting a CPU+Board with 32 lanes or more would throw off the price/performance ratio.
I’m currently looking for this as well. As far as my investigation went right now I’ll probably go for 2x AMD Instinct MI50. Each of them has equivalent to slightly higher performance than a P40, however usually only 16gb VRAM (If you’re super lucky you might get one with 32gb, those are usually not labeled as such though; probably binned MI60). With two of them you got 32gb VRAM and quite the performance for, right now, 200€ / card. Alternatively you should be able to run quantized models on a single card as well.
If you don’t mind running ROCm instead of CUDA this seems like a good bang for the buck. Alternatively you might look into AMDs new line of “AI” SoCs (for example Frameworks Desktop computer). They seem to be really good as well, and depending on your usecase might be more useful than an equally priced 4090.
Summer more being like “in a locked-in way” because I sure as well won’t leave my air-conditioned apartment if it’s over 30°C outside.
